Baby Girls are 9 Months!

I can't believe it is here, but the 29th has come and gone (I am a day late). That means my baby girls are 9 months old. And again, time is flying by so fast. It will be their first birthday before I know it. Time slow down please.

nicknames: Avery: Avery Girl, Avey, Bunny, Chunky Monkey  Sutton: Sutton Muffin, Sutte, Bear Cub, Little Miss

weight: The girls had their 9 month check-up on Friday, so I actually have stats on them. Avery weighs 17 pounds 9 ounces (47.1%), 27 1/2 inches (48.2%) and a head circumference of 46.4 cm (97.5%). Sutton weighs 17 pounds 3 ounces (34.4%), 27.25 inches (38.2%) and a head circumference of 45.8 cm (93.4%).

sleep: This continues to be a battle for us. Sutton has been sleeping like a champ and only wakes up once if at all during the night. Avery on the other hand wakes up 3 to 4 times a night. We asked their pediatrician what the deal is, and she told us it is probably teething. Ugh teething for 3 months?! Hopefully once she gets a few teeth in, she will start sleeping through the night.

The girls go down for bed between 7:15 and 7:30 pm. They will usually sleep until 2 am and that is when Avery wakes up. Then she will wake up a few more times until we get them up at 5:30 am.

eats: The girls are still taking down about 30 to 31 ounces of formula a day and then they get puree twice a day. They have tried some fruit (basically sucked on it and tried to mash it with their gums), breakfast potatoes and a tiny amount of ice cream (they loved ice cream which is funny because they hate cold things). We are hoping to try some sweet potato fries (baked and cut up for them) since they love sweet potatoes so much. We are also hoping to incorporate some meats this month. Wish us luck because the girls haven't taken to pieces of things very well. But they do love their banana and sweet potato puffs.

The girls have tried a few new things this month. They hated pumpkin and corn (gagged). They had blackberries which they didn't care for. They tried spinach (liked it), asparagus puree (liked it) and granola with bananas and they liked that one too. We are hoping to add a third feeding of puree/meats/finger foods this upcoming month.

loves: Sutton: Sutton is all about being on the move. She doesn't want to sit still at all. Once she is sitting, she will either scoot everywhere on her butt, or lay down and do three sixties. She army crawls and gets into the crawling position but hasn't quite mastered the real crawling. Sutton loves to reach out and grab toys. She is passing them back and forth between her hands and playing with all sorts of new toys (not just rattles or small baby toys). Baby girl loves her little sister. She still loves to hold Avery's hand and be next to her. Sutton loves chewing on her hands (still teething), her toys and her blankets. She really loves chewing on the tags of clothes, blankets and toys. Sutton also loves to eat. Whether it is purees, milk or small finger foods, she always loves trying new things. As always she still loves her Wubba Nub and she has mastered putting it in and taking it out. Sutton also is talking up a storm now. She hasn't said any real words (hi and ya by accident) yet, but it won't be long before she does. Sutton loves being outside.

Avery: Avery loves sitting up. She would rather sit up than lie down. She loves to pick up toys and bang them against other toys and the ground. She has mastered playing with toys. So much so, that she steals her sisters toys from her all the time. Girl loves her toys. Avery is a big time talker. She has also said a few things by accident, but she is really working on her talking skills. Avery has started to get into the crawling mode, but doesn't like being on her tummy as much as Sutton does. Avery loves to stand. She has some strong legs on her and it won't be long before she is walking. She is holding herself up with the help of furniture. Avery got her first tooth on September 28th, a day before she turned 9 months. She loves to chew on her hands and toys. But she also likes remote controls and our phones more than her toys.  Avery loves to play airplane with her daddy and she still loves her jumper. She loves to be carried around the house while we do the normal day to day things.

dislikes: Avery does not like getting up in the morning. She still gets fussy and would rather wake up on her own. They don't like waiting for their food. When it is their time to eat, they let us know, and not in a sweet way. The girls go back and forth on bath time. I guess we just need to time it better. They hate teething and so does mommy and daddy. The girls also hate when we take our phones, the remote controller or anything away from them that they aren't supposed to have.

clothing size: They are wearing mostly 9 month clothing. They still fit some 6 month clothing, but also have been wearing a few 12 month things. They finally caught up to other babies in their size and are growing out of their clothes so fast now.

diaper size: Size 3!

Baby girls, mommy and daddy love you both so much. We can't believe how much you have changed in the last month. You girls went to your first football game (and didn't do so well, but better the next game), saw your NICU nurses at the NICU bbq, met your future twin boyfriends at the bbq, went to Graeagle again (where these photos were taken), watched the Niners crumble and went camping for your first time.

You two are the light of our lives and have changed us so much.

Falling Into Friday

Friday is here and I am probably stuck in traffic (I wrote this post earlier this week). Bay area traffic is a bitch. I am in the Bay Area for work, just overnight, but I am prepping myself, my babies and my husband for my upcoming long work trip (in November or December).

Today I am linking up with Karli.

One. I am dying for new Fall clothes. Last year I was pregnant during this time, so I only bought some maternity clothes. This means my wardrobe is in dire need of something new. More specifically, I am looking for a new pair of jeans. I have my eye on a few pairs, but I need to actually go into the store and try them on since I am not sure of my size anymore.
Left: Rag and Bone  Right: Lucky Charlie Skinny

Two. Pearl & Monroe. I have to support my fellow blogger, Jessica, and her new online boutique. Jessica is a mommy/lifestyle blogger who has amazing southern style and the cutest (other than my baby girls) children. She posts different articles of clothing on her facebook page and instagram. You simply leave your size, sold and email. And every since she launched her store, I have been coveting a sweater she wore. Well Tuesday it went on sale and I missed out. I was super bummed, but she said to leave a message for back ups in case someone didn't pay. Well she got an extra shipment, so I am getting one. This beauty will be in my hands in two weeks.

Three. I hoped to get one more beach day in this year, but I am not sure we will. It has been warm all week, but this weekend is supposed to be in the low 60s in Tahoe. I am not complaining because I can't wait for all things Fall, but the beach is calling my name. Instead of a beach day this weekend, we are headed up to Graeagle (one of my favorite day trips) to go to the Brewing Lair for some beer, the cute shops in downtown and ice cream at the cutest little store, Buckaroo Chocolates

Four. Fantasy Football is going pretty well given that we are only in week 3. I am 1-1 in one league (non-cash league, but playing for an Amazon giftcard) and 2-0 in my cash league. I really thought I was going to lose last week in my 2-0 league because I started Alshon Jeffery and he was out for the week. I didn't see it until after 10 am. But I squeezed my win out by 4 points. I will take it. No wonder my husband quite playing for a year. The stress of it kills, but I live for the competition.

Five. We scheduled our family photos. They are October 23rd and will be used for our Christmas card plus other gifts. I can't wait to take them. But I need to start planning outfits now. I have got to have a cohesive look to our family. I think we did a good job last time when the girls were 5 months and they will be 10 months this time. Suggestions? We are using the same photographer who did the 5 month photos and she is amazing. My girls loved her!

Six. We also scheduled our annual Apple Hill trip. I can't wait to share this with the girls. They may not remember it this year, but I will be taking tons of pictures to share with them. And I can't wait to have those yummy apple donuts, apple beer, wine taste, apple pie, crafts and family/friend time. And to make it an even better trip, my in-laws are joining us all this year. I can't wait.

Weekending Late

It was a busy weekend followed by a busy week so far and it is only Wednesday (plus I was beyond exhausted on Monday and Tuesday).

I never got around to a weekend update, and I am sure you all were on your seats waiting for one. I am rested (as much as I can be) and ready to tackle the rest of the week.

Last Friday I stayed home with the girls because Sutton had some runny diaper issues going on. It was bad. We don't know if it was teething or the stomach bug, but she is finally having more consistent poopy diapers.

So my ladies joined me in the bathroom while I got ready because they need to be able to watch me at all times. This momma can't do anything without her ladies right now (separation anxiety is at a height for my girls).

After I got ready, we went out to brunch and then spent most of the day at home. Sutton had at least 4 to 5 runny diapers Friday through Monday. It was gross and stinky. Poor baby girl.

Saturday morning their daddy left to go to the Bay Area to visit some friends (his groomsmen) for some football and left mommy at home with her little ladies. But fear not because my mom came up to help me take the girls to the NICU picnic.

The theme of the picnic/bbq was Disney, so my girls wore vintage style mickey mouse shirts. We met up with a bunch of local twin families and had so much fun. It was great to finally meet so many of the women who support, give advice and help my family out.

The girls did great at the NICU bbq and we got to see some of their favorite nurses while we were there. It was so fun showing them off, letting the nurses hold them and reconnecting.

That evening, my mom and I hung out at home since the girls were fussy, ordered take-out and watched The Judge. Such a great movie.

Sunday I headed out to brunch with my in-laws at Stonehouse. Amazing food and company.

Everyone came over to watch the Niners game (the girls were game ready) which they lost and it was bad. Then it was just mommy and the girls for the rest of the afternoon. I got Avery to take a 2 hour nap and Sutton had herself about an hour nap and then another half hour nap in my arms. I don't get to cuddle my babies much since they want to be on the move or be sitting up, so it was such a little blessing for a Sunday afternoon.

Their daddy came home that evening. We went to grab a quick dinner and watch the Packers game. It was a good, but very busy and fast weekend.

Sunday night the girls slept so poorly which meant mommy and daddy were up from about 2:30 am and on. Rough. We worked all day, then I grocery shopped and cooked dinner. Tuesday was a bit better, but this time I mowed the lawn after work, cooked dinner and stayed up too late watching Scream Queens. Did anyone else? I love Ryan Murphy's work, so I was excited about the show. I liked it, but not sure I loved it. Yet.

How was your weekend?

Oh How Small They Are

Warning, guys, if I have any male readers, but I am about to talk about boobies here. And no not in the sexy kind of way, so you should probably click the red x in the upper right hand corner.

Ok, onto boobies and a bit of a backstory. Before getting pregnant, or even thinking about getting pregnant, I had a 34D chest. Then it was time to start trying and get off birth control. My chest went down to a 34C or 32D. After 10 months, I got pregnant and my boobies started to grow. And grow a ton.

I shot up to a 34DDD which is really hard to find at Victoria Secret. And have you seen a bra that big? It looks like a granny bra. I bought two new bras over the course of my pregnancy and they weren't the most flattering bras but still were VS.

Then it came time to have the babies (early) and I needed a nursing bra. I bought a cheap one at Target without wiring and my self conscious self hated it because my boobs were huge and saggy when not full. So I got an underwire nursing bra there. Again still self conscious and wanted something pretty because you don't feel that pretty at home with two newborns, constantly pumping and nursing and can barely shower. So I figured a nice sexier nursing bra would do some justice. I bought the Cake Lingerie Toffee Nursing Bra. It lifts, is cute and looks like a normal bra with the snaps for nursing. Note: Nordstrom will take any bra and convert it into a nursing bra for about $15 (definitely will do this next time if there is a next time).

Fast forward almost nine months and I am in the last sessions of my weaning process. It is awesome, but bittersweet. I love giving my girls breast milk, but I want my body back too. It is a constant battle inside, but my body has been naturally weaning for about a month now. I had started the process in July and by my goal date I was down to two pumps a day. Now I pump about once a day to once every 36 hours. I was still getting enough to make the girls each a bottle in the morning. But over the last three days I have noticed a change. I am only getting about 100 or so mils in 15 minutes and my boobies are tiney tiny.

I thought I would go back down to a D, maybe C, but I am not even sure they are at a C right now. Maybe a small C. And I wore my nursing bra today (it is comfy and all I have known for 9 months) and there are huge gaps in it. My precious boobs are smaller than I have ever seen them, or remember seeing them. Anyone have this experience after weaning? Will they go up a bit once I am fully done?

The good news is, I won't have to get a lift most likely. I can just do some implants. Yes I am vain and want my boobs to look good for myself and my husband. Not saying I am getting them done tomorrow, but I have been saving. I just can't believe they were a bursting DDD (to sometimes larger) to maybe a small C. Guess I wasn't ready for that part.

Silver lining is my scar from my breast abscess surgery looks pretty good on these small ladies.

And now I am done talking boobies. Men you are free to come back now.

Celebrities Really Do Fly Southwest

My husband kindly reminded me that on Thursday morning, I "fangirled" it out (but not really) when I flew to Los Angeles sitting right behind a celebrity. I have A-List on Southwest, so I was the 8th person to board the plane. I wasn't paying attention, I just wanted a window seat. The first two rows of window seats were taken, so I went to the third seat. I minded my own business and listened to music most of the way down.

We landed in LA and I finally came out of my dazed state. And standing right in front of me was this guy. I knew this guy, but couldn't place him. I knew he was a celebrity that I recognized. I could picture him in this movie, but couldn't name the movie. I thought he was in A-Team, so I slyly looked it up on imdb. Nope. But he had to be in a movie with say Bradley Cooper because Bradley Cooper is in everything these days. So I clicked his name and saw American Hustle. That was it. I knew who it was. Any guesses?
Jeremy Renner (img)

After some googling, I find out he has a house in Lake Tahoe, often visits here and is making some music up here. Very cool. He was very humble, kind and bolted off the plane. I thought he was in town for Burning Man, but I was wrong. And my stalking is done.

I didn't see any other celebrities while visiting LA. It is funny how often I run into celebrities while traveling (mostly for work). While I haven't met many in LA, I have met a ton in New York City.

Weekending

Again, it has been forever since I posted. I was too lazy last week to write and schedule any posts, and then I was in Los Angeles for work without a computer. Excuses, I know.

So this is a little about some random things going on in my life and a weekend update.

Wednesday night after work, we headed to the mall to buy the girls new hats and their daddy a white shirt for the football game (whiteout game). We got the girls cute Wolf Pack hats, their daddy a new polo and mommy got herself a new soft Wolf Pack sweater. In love. I can't wait for Fall to wear it.

After shopping, we needed dinner. The girls were getting fussy, so we thought we would try the highchairs out. We tried once before and they would just slouch over. Not this time. They loved it. And we have been using highchairs every time since.
twins in highchairs

Thursday morning I headed off to LA for work. It was super hot, but a nice change of pace. I went to almost all parts of LA (not really, but so many). And the traffic. Ugh. So bad.
Chick Fil A
When in California, we must stop at Chick-fil-A

I stayed in Manhattan Beach and met up with April for dinner. So great seeing old friends. We had good food, great conversations and a walk on the beach. How romantic, haha. We even dipped our toes in the ocean for about 30 minutes. So amazing.

Friday I was up and at it again. Going to East LA to finish up work. Then I headed home. It was a quick trip, but good to get out of town for a night.

Saturday we ran a few errands to get the girls headphones for the game, highchair/cart covers, baby food and a few other things we really needed for the girls. Then it was off to the tailgate in 95 degree weather. So hot. Luckily, we have amazing friends who let us use their RV to put lotion on the girls, keep them cool and hang out. We went to the game and the girls did so good. They didn't fuss, ate before the game started and watched the game in everyone's arms (family and friends). Huge change from last week.

The girls even started drinking water out of the water bottles. Big day for them. The Pack lost and it wasn't the best game, but at least our ladies had a great time. Next game is October 3rd vs. UNLV (our biggest rival).

Sunday was a lazy day. We had brunch, I went grocery shopping, we did chores around the house, watched football and ended the day with massages (birthday present).

The girls didn't sleep too well last night, or I should say Avery didn't. So we are really tired, trying to figure out how to get her to sleep through the night again and give us more energy. Coffee is my soulmate today. Give me an IV full please. Any suggestions on getting them to sleep through the night again? 9 month growth spurt? Needing larger bottle at night? I NEED SLEEP!

We have a pretty chill week ahead which means lots of home cooking and staying indoors due to all the smoke from the California fires (so sad). Let's just hope it clears by end of week for our NICU bbq. I can't wait to see the girls' NICU nurses and catch up with everyone.

How was your weekend?

Labor Day Weekending

Wow, feels like a long time since I posted anything. I guess the weekend got in the way.

Wednesday night we had date. We left the girls at home with their grandparents and headed off to the Best in the West Rib Cook-off. It is one of my favorite events in the Reno/Sparks area because all the yummy food. Ribs, fried artichokes, beers and did I mention ribs? We sampled three different rib places, but Back Forty was by far our favorite. We ate so much food that we had to be rolled home (kidding, kind of).

Thursday we worked all day, went home to grab a few things and then headed to the first Nevada Wolf Pack football game of the season. We went to our friends tailgate for about an hour, and the girls got to meet so many of our friends. It was pretty awesome to show the girls one of our favorite things (football and tailgating) since last season they were in my belly. Oh have times changed. The girls did great at the tailgate.
Avery waiting to go to the tailgate
This is how we tailgate now

Now the game was another story. It started at 7 pm which is only 30 minutes before the girls feeding time and then bedtime. We thought they would fall asleep after their feeding and just hang out in their carriers. Nope. They both fought their feedings (too much distraction) and then Avery had a massive meltdown during the game. I watched about 5 minutes of the game before trying to calm her down, change her diaper, cover her up (to reduce the sound) and walk the stadium. Nothing worked and we had to leave at half time. Whomp, whomp.

Lesson learned. Go to earlier games (all remaining games are at 12, 1 or 4 pm), buy infant headphones for the sound and have some help from the grandparents. And if that doesn't work, get a babysitter. Let's hope Saturday's game against Arizona will be better (4 pm start, so we will be home by their feeding and bedtime).

Friday we ran errands most of the day. We wanted to go to Food Truck Fridays, but it was too cold outside. Total bummer.

Saturday morning we headed out to Walker to go camping. This was the girls first camping trip and it was a success. The grandparents and family friends loved hanging out with the girls. Mommy and daddy got to ride the ATVs, eat lots of food, have a couple adult beverages and relax. It was a really good time.
Sutton loves mommy's sunglasses
Feeding time camping style

Monday we headed back to Reno to bathe the girls and Walter, do a ton of laundry, clean house and relax. And catch up on Bachelor in Paradise. Priorities people.

Too bad the girls didn't sleep well. One of the worst sleeping nights in a very long time. At least we got lots of cuddles in to calm the babies down.

How was your weekend? I am drinking gallons of coffee today and reminiscing our weekend away. Can't wait to go camping again next year.

Baby Girls are 8 Months!

I know I am a few days late, but I finally got around to writing about the girls being 8 months. I am usually on top of my game, but not this time. And can I just say how hard it is to get the girls to sit still, take photos, actually smile and look at the camera. Getting harder each month. Not the best photos, but nevertheless still cute.

Our girls are growing up so fast. This month has been by far the biggest changes for the girls (in our opinion).

nicknames: Avery: Avery Girl, Avey, Bunny, Chunky Monkey  Sutton: Sutton Muffin, Sutte, Bear Cub, Little Miss

weight: Avery was weighed a week and a half ago at the pediatrician (for her tear duct check up) and she weighed 15 pounds 8 ounces, so I am guessing she is over 16 pounds now. Sutton hasn't been weighed recently, but if her sister is over 16 pounds, she is either right there or just under. My girls are getting so big!

sleep: The girls have been sleeping so much better lately (don't want to jinx it). Sutton has been sleeping through the night consistently, and Avery has been waking up once or twice for her paci and then right back to sleep. Sometimes she self soothes (puts her own paci in or calms herself down too) and other times we are up at it. Naps are a whole different story. When they are at daycare they will take several small naps or an occasional 2 hour nap. When they are at home, they will sleep for 1 1/2 hours to 2 hours twice a day and maybe a small cat nap here and there. It used to be opposite, and I think the girls are just wanting to be up with all the other kids at daycare. It's a work in progress.

eats: this month has been so much better for purees for Miss Avery. Last month she didn't have much interest in food other than her bottles, but this month, girlfriend has upped her game. She LOVES sweet potatoes. Sutton still loves purees. The girls have had carrots, sweet potatoes, apple sauce, pears, squash, peas, green beans (hated them), avocado (hated it when it is by itself, but loves it mixed with other things), kiwi, spinach, mango, orange (mixed), pineapple (mixed), raspberry (mixed) and banana.

As for milk, they still get one breast milk bottle a day (currently). I have been weaning over the last month, so they had mostly breast milk until the last week where they got more formula than milk. They have milk 5 times a day with 190 mls per bottle.

loves: Sutton: Baby girl loves to sit up now. She would rather sit up and see the world then lay down. She loves sitting, then lowering herself to the ground and slowly bringing herself back up. She has some strong ab muscles. She has been using her hands to grab everything in sight and then puts it all into her mouth. She is turning around (her body) when sitting up to see more things and has gotten into the crawl position (but more on accident). She loves chewing on blankets, her WubbaNub, her teething toys and her hands. She has learned to throw things (especially her WubbaNub) and also puts her paci back in her mouth now. She holds her bottle almost every feeding now. Sutton loves being outside. She loves going on walks in her Ergo carrier and the beach. Sutton loves scooting and rolling around. When you put her over your legs, she will be in the crawling position for a long time. She just hasn't figured out what to do next. I think it is time to baby proof soon. Sutton loves raspberries on her tummy, bath time, getting her diaper changed, waking up in the morning and snuggles. Sutton loves to babble and scream! Sutton is just the sweetest baby.

Avery: Avery Girl loves to talk. She will babble all day long. She is also a big squealer. Girl has some lungs on her. Avery also loves to sit. She would rather sit than lay down. But when she is laying down, she is always on her side. She loves to roll and scoot around and will be mobile anytime now. Avery loves her toys. She loves chewing on them, waving them around and throwing them. She loves to droll and put everything in her mouth. She loves to chew on her blanket tags, her hands, her paci and toys. Avery loves to hold her bottle and be very independent, but when she sees her momma, she lights up and wants all the snuggles. Avery still loves to pester her sister. She loves to try to chew on her sisters leg, steal her toys, hold her hand and just be around Sutton. Avery loves getting her diaper changed, playing airplane, raspberries on her tummy, bath time and cuddles from her daddy. Avery is such a fun and sweet baby!

dislikes: Avery does not like getting up in the morning. Sutton is a morning girl, but if you wake up Avery, she will cry and scream until she gets her bottle. Girlfriend hates the mornings. The girls started to hate their helmets the last week they were wearing them, so they are pretty happy to have them off. The girls also hate waiting for their food. And with their teething in full force (when will those first teeth finally pop through), they get grumpy.

clothing size: They are wearing 6 month clothing and even a few 6 to 9 month items.

diaper size: Size 2, but we have size 3 on order for September.

Baby girls, I can't believe you are 8 months already. You are growing so fast, changing daily and we fall more in love with you two each day. You are the light of our lives and have forever changed us. We love you baby girls.

Love, Mommy and Daddy

I Have a Secret...

I often get asked if our twins are identical. I always reply yes without missing a step, but in the back of my mind, I have always wondered, are they really identical?

When we first found out we were having twins, there wasn't a way of telling whether or not they were (around 8 or so weeks). Then around 11 weeks, we had an ultrasound that showed a very small membrane between the girls amniotic sacks. My perinatal doctor declared they were identical. We continued to monitor this line which gets harder to see and define as the twins get bigger.

We were also monitored for twin to twin syndrome which happens in identical twins where they share a placenta (fused or not) and one takes more fluid and nutrients than the other. Our girls started off great, but over time, one had more than the other. As long as it was 20% or less difference, we were ok. And luckily at the time of delivery (or close to) they were at a 11% difference.

We would always ask the perinatal doctor if they were in fact identical and he said more than likely, but we wouldn't know until they were born. So we went with it.

Then I had the babies and I had every intention on keeping the placenta to have it dried out and put into capsules to take daily. Gross, I know, but so good for a postpartum woman. Helps stabilize the hormones. Then labor and choas happened. My placenta broke inside of me (part was still attached to my uterus wall) and caused major hemorrhaging. Enough to give me a transfusion.

My husband asked if we could keep it, but the surgeon said it had to go to pathology to be tested since it broke. She said we could find out if the girls were identical or not (the full proof way) once the results came in.

Well we waited until my 2 week postpartum appointment, but the results were not ready yet. Then came the 8 week appointment and I forgot about it. I always just assumed they were. Finally, last week, I got access to all my medical reports and labs (I know so late).

And the final word is: they are diamniotic monochorionic twins or IDENTICAL TWINS

They came from one egg that split around 5 to 8 days, were in separate sacks, but shared a placenta.

So there we have it. Now I can confidently say our girls are identical.

What do you all think? Do they look identical? Who is on the left? Who is on the right?
