Why I'm Not Around Today

I had every intention on coming here and writing a weekend update like usual, but now I can't. Sure our weekend was pretty good, but it ended on a tough note.

We had a pizza date night on Friday, we went to the local Discovery Museum on Saturday and took the girls to the trampoline park on Sunday. But we also lost a beautiful soul yesterday. Rory's aunt passed away yesterday morning very unexpectedly. To say we are devastated is an understatement.

She was the family patriarch. She brought everyone together. From family reunions to fun dress-up Thanksgivings, she was the center of it all. She taught us about essential oils, cooked many delicious meals and told the best stories. Her wedding story will forever be a favorite of mine.

I barely slept last night. I just kept thinking about her and all of our memories together.

Do you know how hard it is to explain death to 3 1/2 year olds? It is tough. They tell us over and over that auntie Gail died or that she passed away, but I don't think they fully grasp that they will never see her again. It is hard to explain to them that they will never see her body again, that her soul went to Heaven and she is no longer here with us. It is heartbreaking. The girls loved their great aunt and she loved them very much.

I may share some photos from our weekend in another post, but for today I just want to take a minute to myself.

  7. Oh my gosh... I am so sorry. It says a lot about someone when their passing just rocks an entire family. Shows how special she is to everyone & how her legacy will be carried on. Take time for yourself. Think of happy times & wonderful memories.

  8. Oh no I am so sorry to hear that.
Death is not an easy topic with little kids.. my mom once explained to my eldest that when people die they become stars.. that sort of helped for then.

  20. I am so sorry for your loss, Danielle. Life is so unfair sometimes. It's so hard explaining things to children. A still asks me about my grandpop and remembers things vividly from his funeral. Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers <3 Sierra Beautifully Candid

    1. Oh wow. I can't believe he remembers that. It has been really hard. Every time the girls mention her, I cry. They miss her and "fake" call her everyday. Thank you Sierra.
