Friday Favorites and Happenings

Friday, August 18, 2017

I actually wrote another post for this week! Progress. I had every intention on blogging this week (ahead of time), but then life got in the way and I skipped out. But I am back today with some Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. I have been so awful at responding to comments lately. I just need to sit down and go through them because I love responding to the comments. I love the feedback, advice and just talking to my fellow bloggers. Seriously, I love my friendships I have made through this journey. Plus when you got on vacation, you get farther behind and it is hard to get caught up. Same with blog reading. I am slowly making my way through.

TWO. I wanted to give you all an update on my blood test results. I had another blood test on Wednesday when I got back from vacation to check my vitamin levels even more. Basically to see how deficient I am. So I had that test and then I went straight over to the Shot Spot. I spent a bit of time talking about my blood test results and then I had a consultation. During the consultation she did some tests to see what my body needed and ultimately decided on a b-12 shot with magnesium, folinic acid and lysine. I got the shot in my right hip. It was painless and I was on my way.

I am already feeling better. We also talked about some vitamin supplements I can take. I am waiting for my second blood test results before taking those. Plus my insurance covers part of these shots, so I know I can go back when I need a boost.

THREE. Yesterday was my anniversary (yay), but I had to work (boo). Isn't that how it always is? I have to save my leave for the holidays, so I decided to work yesterday. Though I am back off today. So even though we worked yesterday, when we got home, we exchanged gifts and went to dinner at a favorite restaurant of ours. My sister watched the girls and we had a great time out.

Since 4th wedding anniversary's traditional gift is flowers and fruit, I went to a flower theme. Rory loves bourbon, so after searching the internet one day, I found the perfect gift. A bottle of Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon.

FOUR. Today I am off because we are celebrating Rory's cousins wedding this afternoon. We dropped the girls off at my parents house this morning and now we are up at the lake. We are enjoying some sunshine before heading to the house we are staying at up at the lake to get ready and then dance our butts off. I can't wait. The girls are staying over my parents house and we have the night ahead of us!

Remember the dress I asked for comments on many months ago? Well today is finally the day I wear it. I can't wait to recap it for you all.
Lulus beige floral dress

FIVE. I have a recap coming next week of our trip to Graeagle. It will mostly be photos as we basically did the same things each day, but they varied a bit. Plus all the amazing food we ate. Yes, I ran at the gym for an hour straight yesterday to burn as much of it off as I could before I indulged at my anniversary dinner and then with drinks and dinner tonight.

I hope you have a great weekend. Stay tuned next week for two giveaways that I am a part of!

I am linking up with April, A Little Bit of Everything, Karli, Meet @ the Barre and Cup of Tea.

My 4th Wedding Anniversary

Thursday, August 17, 2017

So instead of writing my thoughts and confessions today, I am writing about my anniversary. Today marks 4 years that Rory and I have been married. How crazy is that? Sure it isn't the 34 years that my parents have been married, but we are working our way towards that.

Rory and I have been together for about 7 1/2 years and married for four. We met at work, fell in love, adopted a dog, got married, had twins and the rest is history. That is the summed up version of us.

August 17, 2014, was a magical day. I had spent months planning the day. I spent countless hours crafting and trying to get a "Pinterest" perfect wedding. It was a perfect day to us, but it did have its bumps along the way. Nothing that we did, but we had the worst coordinator. Word of advice, hire a coordinator outside of the venue. We did not and I regret that. Otherwise, it was perfect, but I will let the pictures do the talking.

We said our beautiful vows in front of our closest family and friends. We danced the night away. We took so many photos in the photobooth. We enjoyed champagne. We cried during the toasts. We had a sparkler exit. But we had the best day EVER.

Happy Anniversary Rory!

Friday Favorites and Happenings

Friday, August 11, 2017

This week dragged on...anyone else feel that way? I was out of the office for two days this week, but between appointments, lack of sleep and getting ready for our trip, I have been running full force all week. Let's hope things settle down a bit.

Let's get onto Friday Favorites and Happenings.

ONE. Ok fellow parents, I need some advice. My girls used to be decent sleeper. I say decent because we would wake up zero to two times a night to give them their paci and then it was back to bed. They would sleep in until 5:30 to 7 am depending on the day (week vs. weekend). Two weeks ago we made the decision to transition the girls into toddler style crib/beds. We removed the front of the crib and added on the half bar attachment.

Some nights are ok meaning that they will sleep from bedtime until 4:15 or 5:15. We will usually let them come snuggle with us since it is closer to wake up time (yes we wake up early on weekdays). But most nights are they wake up several times a night crying for their daddy, sitting up in bed and wanting to get out. We either have to lay in their room with them until they fall back asleep or give in and let them come to our room. I am not in favor of the come into our room because space, I can't sleep and they move/kick way too much.

Two nights ago I was in there for 3 1/2 hours trying to get them back to sleep. My neck was killing me from laying on the floor and I was dead tired. I only got a few hours of sleep and I had a meeting the next day that I needed to be rested for.

What I am trying to get at is, what should we do? Do we put the crib railing back on and wait until they are three? Stick it out and know we won't sleep well for awhile? Other suggestions. This mama is desperate and having a rough time.
transitioning from crib to toddler bed

TWO. I don't know if you all saw on IG a few days ago, but I went to the doctor for my annual wellness check. It is for my insurance, but since I was there, I thought I would mention to my doctor about my lack of energy and being tired all the time. I always chalked it up to having twin toddlers, but something told me that it was more. Plus I had my blood test results from my life insurance exam and a few of the items were high and of concern.

My doctor took note of all of this and sent me off to have more blood work done and have specifics tests done this time. He focus on my thyroid, liver, kidneys, iron, b12, b6, the items that were high and a few others. I went immediately over to get my blood drawn and the next day (Wednesday) I got some results. My b-12 is really low and another thing was as well. He said I needed to get labs done again on two other things to see what the exact thing we need to treat for. So I know I have a b12 deficiency which definitely explains my energy levels.

What I am getting at is be proactive. I hate going to the doctor so I never bring up things that are bothering me because I always think they are just normal or from having twins. But in this case, they weren't. Hopefully I get my new test results back soon.

THREE. This week I participated in a giveaway for Lipsense. I have hard a ton about it, but never wanted to pull the trigger on spending $50+ on lipstick. I wear chapstick because I have kids, but I have heard so much hype about being able to kiss your kids/spouse, all day wear and lasts through eating. For the giveaway you had to pick who was going to win on The Bachelorette. I barely watched this season, but I knew a bit about who was left, so I chose Bryan and of course he won. #ringchaser #wrongchoice And then I won the giveaway, so I have Bombshell and a glossy gloss coming to me this week. I can't wait to try it and report back on it, but I am fearful that I will like it a lot and want more colors.

Have you all tried Lipsense?
Bombshell Lipsense

FOUR. I am on the hunt for new slippers. I am embarrassed to say that I wear my old pair of Ugg slippers and one of them has a giant hole where my big toe is. I still rock them daily and my girls even say NO SLIPPERS when I am wearing them and we are getting ready to leave. It is like they think I will wear them out in public, but I only wear them out to take out the trash (public).

I know I don't really need them until Fall/Winter, but the search is on. What are your favorite slippers?
Ugg Slippers
These are very similar to the ones I currently have.

FIVE. We are on vacation next week, so I probably won't be posting much in the next week. I hope I can get my act together and write a post or two today for next week, but no promises.

I hope you all have a good weekend!

Girl Chat - Dream Vacation

Thursday, August 10, 2017

It is time for another round of Girl Chat. This month we are talking about our dream vacation. Who would you go with, where would you go and what would you do/see?

I have been on some pretty amazing vacations. My favorite so far was Costa Rica. This was before the girls were born, but it was the best. If you are looking for a tropical, easy going, outdoorsy type of vacation, look no further than Guanacaste, Costa Rica. That is the province. We stayed near Tamarindo.
Guanacaste Costa Rica
Guanacaste Costa Rica

But I have already been there, so lets talk about where I want to go. A European vacation. I have been to England, Scotland and Gibraltar in Europe, but there are many countries I am dying to go to.

So let's get started.

Where? Italy, Germany, Greece, France and Switzerland. I mean I would travel to almost every European county if I could, but I limited it to the ones I HAVE to see in my lifetime.

Who would I go with? If I were to leave tomorrow, I would go with just my husband since my girls are so young. I am not sure they could appreciate all Europe has to offer and it would be hard seeing everything when they get tired from walking. But if it was a few years from now, I would include my sweet girls.

What would I do/see?

Italy: Milan. I would love to go shopping in Milan because it is the fashion capital. I would also love to see Sicily, the Tuscany region and Rome. I would go wine tasting in Tuscany. I would see all the historical places in Rome like the Vatican, Colesseum, Sistine Chapel, etc. I would also eat my way through Italy.
Milan

Germany: I just want to travel around, eat all the yummy food, see all the World War 2 historical areas and drink some good beer.
Germany

Greece: My former boss is from Greece and I heard nothing but great things about it. Plus Jenn talked about it last year when she and her husband went. I would eat all the Greek food, go to the beaches, go to the small towns and explore.
Santorini

France: I was supposed to go to France for work last year but it got cancelled. So now I would love to go there and go to Paris to...eat, see the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and stroll along the Seine. I would also love to go to South France and explore the country side there.
Paris

Switzerland: I would go see Zermatt and Zurich. My brother-in-law and sister-in-law have spent some time there for work and they have said nothing but good things about it.
Zermatt

I would love to do this by train, but let's be real, I would do some by train and most of it by plane. I do want to see the country side of Europe and the best way would be by train. I could add on so many countries like Ireland, Sweden, Croatia, Slovenia, Denmark, etc. And let's be real, I could only do this dream vacation if money didn't matter.

Where would you go on your dream vacation?

Weekending

Tuesday, August 8, 2017

It seems like the weekends are getting shorter and the weeks are getting longer. Heck, I can't believe that we are already into August and it is already the 8th. Where has the time gone?

Friday after work I headed straight to get a pedicure. My toes were looking super rough and needed some tlc. After spending an hour and a half with Kelly, my toes were bright sparkly red and looking amazing. I grabbed a quick sandwich and then headed to Target to get some stuff for the girls' first day at daycare. I can't believe they started a new school this week.

I was heading home and Rory called to say the girls just went down for their naps since they wouldn't go down for his parents. Ugh. I thought about staying out and shopping, but I wanted to see the girls before going out that evening.

I got home and they were asleep. They slept most of the time I was there, but got up in time for me to make them a quick dinner and then I headed out to meet my girlfriends for happy hour and to celebrate my birthday. We had wine and appetizers and caught up. The weather was perfect and we had a great time. Then a couple of us headed to The Eddy for another drink and more chatting. I ended up going home at 10 pm and it was such a great evening out.

Saturday morning we went out to breakfast and then ran to Target again so I could look at the Fitbit Charge 2. I had been doing a lot of research between the iWatch Series 2 and the Fitbit Charge 2 and after deciding that I want a more fitness focused watch, I got the Fitbit Charge 2. Maybe I will get an iWatch at a later time.

We came home and I got my Fitbit set up and the girls were running around like crazy girls. We had our TV installed and mounted and the girls were fascinated by it all. Plus we had someone who lived a few streets away come by saying if we saw her pet skunk to please let her know. She said he had the scent taken out, was declawed and what not. So crazy that someone has a pet skunk.

We got the girls down for their naps and then had two and a half hours of quiet time. It was so nice. I ran to Costco to get pull ups for daycare and then came home and they were still asleep. Once they got up, we had some snacks and got them ready to go to Rory's cousins birthday party.

We went to the party and had a blast. There was storms rolling through, but the girls and Rory went swimming, we had bbq for dinner, drinks outside and great talks. We were there from 5 to almost 9 pm. Way past the girls bedtime.

Sunday we woke up, lazied around the house some and I did some cleaning. Then we headed to a later breakfast followed by some park time even though the girls were acting like crazy girls. These terrible twos are tough and I heard it only gets worse when they turn 3.

We got home in time for naps and the girls went down easily. Though they only slept for an hour nad a half. The thunderstorms were rolling back in and Walter was getting scared.

We hung out, played and did some yard work. I also ran to the grocery store and then my parents came up at 4:30 to cut the girls bangs. It is so much easier to have my mom cut the girls bangs until we want to go get them full cuts. The girls love their grandma and hate getting their haircut, so this is the easiest option. Then we headed out to dinner for my dad's birthday. We went to Mexican food with my family, my mom, dad, sister and future brother-in-law. We dined on margs, chips and salsa and Mexican food!!! So good. Happy Birthday Dad!

We left and took a drive around town to see the fire going on and just kill sometime before the girls bedtime. Once we got home the girls went down easily and we watched some tv before heading to bed.

How was your weekend?

Thoughts on Thursday

Thursday, August 3, 2017

Hey, look. I am actually here for a round of thoughts on Thursday and some confessions. I got my act together and blogged yesterday....on my birthday. That is effort there. Ha.

I hope you join me this week. Write some thoughts, confessions or both and come back to link up.

THOUGHTS

- Thank you all for the outpouring love for my birthday. I love this blogging community and how everyone makes you feel so special. THANK YOU!

- I spent the better part of yesterday researching the new iPhone. Should I have been working? Yep, but I am so excited about the new iPhone. Well, except that they might only put out a small amount at first and then another shipment in early 2018. Ugh. And it might cost around $1,000. Dang. But I am sure I will get one because I need a new phone, I need a better camera and love new technology.

I was just talking to my bosses about Apple, technology and how I am sucked into it all. I don't own anything but apple products. I am so used to their products, like how they work and just can't change. #appleforlife

- My girls start their new daycare/preschool on Monday. Where has the time gone? We have been trying to prep them for school again, but I know they have enjoyed their summer with grandparents. Hopefully, we have a smooth-ish transition.

CONFESSIONS

- I was sad that I didn't get to take yesterday off for my birthday, but I didn't want to take it off and watch the girls all day. I love my girls, but my birthday should be spent on me. So in a few weeks when they are back in daycare/preschool, I will take a day off to do Danielle things. You know binge some Netflix, get my nails done, have a lunch to myself without sharing and all the good stuff. Hey maybe I can sleep in too!

- I was very into blogging at the beginning of the summer and then everyone else wasn't, so I took part in the kick back schedule and now it is hard to ramp back up again. I am posting 5 days this week and it has been quite awhile since I did that.

- Blogging is hard, but the community of friends I have gained has made it so worth it. I have thought about quitting many times, but then I would miss my friends. I would miss catching up and writing in this little space of mine.

Celebrating My 34th Birthday with 34 Things About Me

Wednesday, August 2, 2017

It's no secret that today is my birthday. If you follow me on Facebook or IG, I am sure you have seen some posts about it.

Today I turn 34. Wow. I feel like it was just yesterday that I was in my 20s being carefree and going BIG for my birthday. Now that I am married with kids, I like the more subtle birthday celebrations. And since I shared with you all, 39 things about my husband on his birthday, I thought I would share 34 things about myself with you all on my birthday.

1. I have one tattoo on my ankle. I got it about 10 years ago with my sister. I had always wanted to get a flower tattoo, more specifically a lily tattoo. I took in about five pictures of lilies and told the tattoo artist that I wanted a mix of them. My own unique lily. He did an amazing job on it. And the color is still bright and beautiful even 10 years later.
lily tattoo

2. I have never wanted another tattoo until recently and I plan on getting my girls names on my rib cage.

3. In my 20s I went to a ton of concerts. It is what I spent my money on. I went to the Vans Warped Tour every year from the time I was 17 or 18 until my late 20s. I have been to Snowboarding for Breast Cancer where bands like Lincoln Park and Blink 182 played. I have seen Incubus 4 times. I have seen so many punk bands play in small venues where I live. Tool was one the best shows I have ever seen live, but Black Keys is right up there.

4. I feel like I was born in the wrong decade. My love for music is strong. I grew up listening to bands from the 60s, 70s and 80s. I love classic Rock so much. The Nirvana station on Pandora is the best. It has a mix of Nirvana (duh), Sublime, ACDC, Aerosmith, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Steve Miller Band, Foo Fighters, Boston and so much more. The best.

5. My favorite classic rock band is Pink Floyd.

6. I am double jointed in both of my thumbs.
double jointed thumbs

7. I am a steak snob. Growing up, I didn't like steak that much, but as I got older and my parents introduced me to filet minion, I haven't turned back. I will chose filet over almost any steak every single time.

8. I have had 7 surgeries. I have had foot, knee, emergency c-section, 2 umbilical hernias one with a partial ab closure, a breast abscess and augmentation. These are not counting all the mole removals, wisdom teeth or anything of that nature.

9. Growing up I wanted to be a doctor, but now I want to be a nurse. Yep, I let technology win me over in college, but feel like I should have went with what I loved from the beginning. Medicine.

10. Growing up I always wanted twins because I thought it was so cool. I wanted identical twins too. But as I got older, I realized how much work, how hard it would be and that I wanted two pregnancies. Well guess what, life does give you what you want sometimes because I had twins all those years later and they are identical. Full circle.
twins gender reveal

11. I have gotten a severe concussion/whiplash/swollen neck and tore my meniscus while snowboarding (two separate incidents) and I still continue to snowboard. I am just more careful now, ie, I don't go off of jumps, do rails or even really board through the trees.

12. I wear a size 8 in shoes which means everyone always takes my sizes. When I was pregnant, I thought my feet would grow (my gyno told me it could happen), but mine never did. So I still have to fight for my size 8 shoes.

13. Speaking of shoes, I had some interesting jobs before heading off to college. I was a grocery bagger, shoes salesman at JC Penney's, sales rep at a local video store and a student worker at a local insurance company. The video store clerk was my favorite. It was a lot like the movie Clerks.

14. I never went to my senior prom. My boyfriend and I had broken up not long before, so my good friend Andy was going to take me, but then that got all messed up. I did go to the junior prom at my boyfriend's school though and it was in Lake Tahoe, so that was even better.

15. I graduated high school with a 3.95 and thought college would be a breeze like high school. I was wrong and I got a D on my first exam which was in Economics. Needless to say, my study habits changed quickly.

16. Do you all remember LEI jeans? All the girls in high school (1998 - 2001) wore them. I unfortunately or fortunately had very long legs in high school and couldn't wear them. They were high waters on me. So after my mom took me to Sacramento on a shopping trip, I found Abercrombie and Fitch jeans. They came in long and my life was forever changed. At that time, jeans were only about $39 a piece. Now to think they are about a $100 a pair.

We only wore boot-cut or flare jeans

17. While in college, I lived in an old sorority house. I had 7 other roommates which meant crazy cheap bills, lots of drama, some life long friends made and some of the best times in my life.

18. When I growing up, I was in jujitsu and I was pretty good at it. I made it to a brown belt (right below black belt) and would have made it farther, but then I quit. I loved to wrestle the boys and was pretty good at beating them.

19. When I was a senior in high school I learned to play the guitar for my senior project. Not only did I have to write a 10 page paper on the history of the guitar, but I had to play 3 songs for them. I played Scar Tissue by Red Hot Chili Peppers, Blink 182's Dammit and a Spanish Flamanco song my teacher taught me.

20. I donate blood and try to do it every 8 weeks.

21. In high school, I wrote a lot of poetry and was published in many books.

22. My favorite food is Italian food. I would eat pasta everyday if I could and wouldn't get fat. I loved spaghetti so much growing up. I would put down 2 plates easily. #fatkidatheart

23. I had my first kiss at 14. It was with a basketball player at my middle school.

24. My favorite cocktail is a Moscow Mule. Otherwise, I drink wine.

25. When my dad went to Afghanistan for a year, I think I took it the hardest. I am a total Daddy's girl.

26. I have been out of the country many times, but I have barely made a dent in my wish list. I have been to England, Scotland, Gibraltar, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica and Australia.
Lola's in Costa Rica
One of my favorite places in Costa Rica, Lola's

27. I am sooo afraid of sharks. I used to have the hardest time going in the ocean. I still do, but now I constantly watch  what is beneath me. But I also have taken this fear to a crazy level as I watch all things shark. I basically feed my fear. This probably makes me sound crazy, but the best shark videos are attack ones. I want to know how to get out of that situation if I am ever put in it.

28. Speaking of sharks, I wanted to go cage diving with great white sharks as my 40th birthday present. Ha. I am crazy, right?

29. Growing up I loved New Kids on the Block. I was so obsessed with them. I had their pjs, sheets, shirts, books, posters, cassette tapes, etc. The obsession was real.
NKOTB

30. When I was growing up chocolate was my go to flavor for everything. I loved mochas, rocky road ice cream, milk chocolate bars, etc. As I have gotten older, my tastes have gone completely opposite and I chose vanilla for everything...vanilla lattes, vanilla ice cream, vanilla bean yogurt, vanilla cake, etc.

31. My middle name is Kira. Before I was born, my parents were picking my name and my mom wanted to have my first name be Kira after her favorite movie Xanadu. You know the one with Olivia Newton John. But after awhile, she didn't like Kira as the first name and named me Danielle Kira.

When I was growing up, I didn't tell many people my middle name because it was different from other peoples like middle names: Lynn, Marie, Christine, etc. Now I love that my name is different. Though Kira is becoming more and more popular. Sutton's middle name is also Kira to carry it on.

32. I love the NFL. I seriously live for it. Sometimes it makes me mad, but it is just so fun to watch. I know a lot about the NFL and I have had some showdowns with guys who think I don't know squat about it. It is so much fun to show up a guy and let him know that girls love sports just as much as guys do. Plus I was always told it was awesome to have someone who loves NFL because they want to watch it just as much as their spouse does.
49ers Fans
One of our last games at Candlestick Park

33. I played the clarinet in fifth and sixth grades. I was actually pretty good at it, but stopped playing.

34. I used to do yoga three days a week for about 6 years and then the price of it got in the way. That is when I changed to spin class and loved it so much more. I wish I was still at my old gym and could take a spin class twice a week.

It is seriously hard to think of this many things about yourself. Ha. But it is also fun thinking about this sort of stuff. Definitely a stroll down memory lane.

Golden Graham S'mores Bars

Tuesday, August 1, 2017

There is something about s'mores that brings me back to my childhood. I remember camping with my family and on so many evenings, we would make s'mores. I love my marshmallows perfectly golden brown. Yes I was one of those people who would slowly rotate my marshmallow until I was completely satisfied. I usually only had one little bar of chocolate as I loved the marshmallow and graham cracker combo, but it still needed a bit of chocolate.

Now, as I have gotten older, I still partake in a s'mores campfire, but not as often as I would like. Plus my tastes have changed and I really LOVE dark chocolate. So today, I am bringing you a different take on s'mores, in a bar form and ever so delicious. I hope you enjoy.

1 ½ cups dark chocolate chips (just shy of a whole bag)
5 tbl butter
¼ cup Karo
1 tsp vanilla
1 box Golden Grahams

S'mores bar ingredients

Directions:
1. Grease a 9x13 inch pan with butter.
2. In a large pot, melt the dark chocolate chips, Karo, butter and marshmallows (minus one cup) over low heat.
3. Once your mixture is completely melted, remove your pan from the heat and stir in your vanilla.

4. Pour the cereal into your pan and stir until the cereal is coated.
5. Stir in the last cup of marshmallows.
6. Pour your mixture into your buttered pan. I find that if you use a wooden spoon with a bit of butter on it, it is easier to smooth out.

7. Let your bars cool for at least an hour. Cut and serve.

These are so hard to photograph because they just look like a tower of mess, but taste so good.
