What's Hap-Pinning Lately

I have a serious all over the place list of pins I have been pinning this week. Everything from baby to running and anything in between. But you can see for yourself below. Welcome to the world of Danielle's chaotic brain this week.

Today I am linking up with Jenn and Jessi.

First up, is the ongoing search for the perfect diaper pail. Is there really any diaper pail that is GREAT? Probably not. We used to have the Arm and Hammer Diaper Pail for about a year and a half. It was starting to smell and we were at the end of our supply of bags, so I searched amazon and so many reviews of diaper pails and ultimately decided on the Ubbi Diaper Pail. After using it for a few weeks, I am finally ready to say that I HATE this diaper pail. Yes, you read that right. Hate. Sure it is prettier than the other brands with the outside being made of steel, an easy sliding door and the ability to use any kind of bag you want. The bad: the so-called childproof lock is dumb. It is a small quarter turn and it is locked and keeps toddlers out. No it doesn't. My girls got in within seconds this morning and were trying to pull the diapers out. Odor control...only when it is closed. If you open it, even for a second, the odor wafts out and stays in the air even after you close it. We tightly wrap their diapers shut and only open the pail for a second and the odor consumes us. Yes, we have toddlers so their poop stinks more, but this doesn't help with the odor. Changing the bag is easy, but when you open the top to get the bag out and have to put a new one in, you gag so much from the smell that you throw up in your mouth. True story.

I am so disappointed in this diaper pail. If you have a newborn to 6 or so month old, it will work great because the baby can't get into it and their diapers don't smell as much. But if you have roaming toddlers like I do, try something else.

I used to be an avid runner. I loved running and would hit the gym and start my workout with a 30 to 45 minute run. I had long, lean legs and love the way my body looked. Then I got pregnant and had to stop running when I was 6 months pregnant. I have been wanting to get back into running since having the girls and I had started only to have surgery on my umbilical hernia and now I am back to square one again. I am dreading the start up again, but I have to do it at one point or another otherwise I won't have those long and lean legs I strive for. Apparently, I have been doing the elliptical wrong and have bulked up my legs (gross) instead of toning them like I wanted. So yesterday, I started a couch to 5k program. Sure, it seems easy and I feel like I won't need the 8 weeks, but you never know. I needed motivation, so here is to hoping it works out for me.

So I got my hair done on Friday and I am happy with it, but not sure it is EXACTLY what I wanted. I went in with the idea of doing bayalage and having more natural looking hair that I could go even longer in between appointments. So off, my stylist went. I was looking for a butter blonde bayalage like this...

It came out more like this one. More of an ash blonde bayalage.

While I still like it, I fret that it looks like I have silvery grey hair in certain light. Maybe I am freaking out over nothing and it looks great. Who knows, but I have a follow up in 5 weeks to make sure I like it and to change anything I don't. I ended up only trimming it a tiny bit and I am rocking the wavy curls everyday.

I feel like I am in a food rut lately. I make the same meals day in and day out it seems. We want to change it up and try new things, but some I don't research new meal ideas that often before I go to the grocery store or we pick things that we are more used to. We need some new inspiration. I have seen a ton of these companies all over blogs and facebook and want to know which you like best. We are open to trying a few of them and seeing which we like. So who likes Blue Apron? Sun Basket? Hello Fresh? etc.

  1. Sometimes I feel like I get in a meal rut, so then I just search Pinterest for recipes that look easy enough and tasty. That's where I get 95% of the recipes that I share on my blog. I think your hair looks great!!!
Thanks for linking up with us!

    1. I search Pinterest too, but I search for the same kind of foods...pastas, Mexican and seafood dishes. I need to branch out a bit more. And thank you. I am still getting used to my ashy colored hair.

  2. So I'm glad I hadn't ordered that diaper pail yet. Sorry it's a big disappointment. Guess I'll stick with my stinky trash cans I currently use. I have been wanting to do the couch to 5k. I may just have to use that pin!

    1. Yes, I wrote the company to see what they suggest and what I can do because it was pricey and I just can't buy a new one (well I can but don't want to). I completed my first day yesterday and I feel great. I am doing my next one today and then day 3 tomorrow. They want you to have rest days, but I am only at work 4 days this week and Fridays are half days, so that didn't work. You should try it. I downloaded an app so I can watch Netflix and it tells me when to walk, run or jog while doing that. So cool.

  3. Totally sucks that the diaper pail you guys got is a dud. Boo! I get in meal ruts too. We've been changing it up lately and it feels so much better.

    1. We love eating salmon and shrimp so we have been eating that lately, but I want more varieties of things. I need to branch out more is what I need to do. Ha.

  4. Love your new 'do! I have never tried any of the meal in the box places, but it seems like such a neat idea, especially when you are in a rut and things are busy!

    1. Well thank you. I hope to try the meal delivery for at least a week and see what we think. Then we can use it whenever we need a break in what we make.

    1. I do make a lot off of Pinterest, but I find that I gravitate towards the same ideas. Always pasta, Mexican and seafood. I need to look for more options and kinds of foods.

  6. I used a diaper pail with my first but never again after that! Pee diapers go in the garbage and poop goes straight outside to the trash! I actually love that color hair so I'm sure yours looks great!!

    1. I really wish that I could just do the trash can route, but with twins it seems a lot harder.

  7. We gave up the diaper pail and just tie the diapers in plastic bags and throw them away. Also Hello Fresh is awesome!

    1. It seems like more and more people are going the route of just throwing in the trash. How many times have you used hello fresh?

  8. Good luck starting up the c25k program! It's so nice to have a set schedule or routine for how much/long you run when you're just getting started/back into running. We've used Blue Apron on and off again for about a year and it does make things a lot easier when it comes to shopping and meal planning, but more often than not there aren't 3 recipe options available together that are really that appealing-- so I think it definitely depends on how picky you are.

    1. Thank you. Yesterday was successful and today is day 2 of running. Last time I just worked my way up to running and this time I want to do it right. I worry about not having 3 meal options that we would like to try as well. Sometimes so many things look good and others nothing does.

  9. I am totally in a meal rut. We eat the same 5 things because they are quick and easy with two babies. I hate you don't love the diaper pail. I was hoping for a good review. Love your hair!!

    1. We eat a lot of the same stuff too. Especially the girls do. I really hoped that I would love the diaper pail too, but we don't. Ugh.

  10. I too have been in a meal rut. It's so easy to get into one. Thankfully, pinterest always helps get me out of it. My friend had the diaper pail and absolutely hated it. Your hair looks great.

    1. So glad I am not the only one who hated the diaper pail. It gets good reviews (hence why we got it), but I don't understand the good reviews. Maybe they have tiny new babies.

    1. That is why I am perplexed too. All the fresh fruit and veggies makes it seem like it would be easier to make something. I guess part of it is picky toddlers too.

  12. I LOVE your hair! Give yourself some time to get used to it and if you still don't love it at your follow up ask her to fix it : )

    1. Thank you. I am not used to the ashy color and worry about it looking grey, but people seem to like it so far.

  13. Oh I love the color you wanted, but I love the color your hair ended up even more! I'm sure it will take some getting used to though. We were loving Hello Fresh for a little while, but stopped once I got pregnant since certain foods made me gag, haha. I do highly recommend them though. We tried Blue Apron as well, but we weren't fans.

    1. Glad to know that Hello Fresh was better for you guys. I figured we can try it and if we don't like it, then cancel. And we don't have to do it weekly. Thank you on the comments on my hair.

  14. Wash it and let it fade some then decide. I'm sure it looks fine just not what you are used to. It can always be changed back.

    1. That is what I am thinking. I think it is the harsh lights in my work bathroom that get me on my hair. It always looks like crap in there. No matter what I do.

  15. Oh dang, I hate that you don't like the diaper pail. I'm pissed because we just had to buy a new one because ours broke and we went ahead and got the Arm and Hammer one again, but they JUST discontinued it and now we can't find the refills for the bags ANYWHERE. Time to get Olivia potty-trained before we run out of bags! Lol.

I want to see your hair!! Post a pic soon!

    1. We were going to get the newer Arm and Hammer one when we saw it at Babies R Us and then others said the Ubbi was great. Nope. Hate it. I want to potty train the girls soon. Or at least start. Good to know about the bags though because we had that same one and had a hard time finding the bags.

I will post a pic this week so you can see it.

  16. Ohh I want to see the hair. What a cool look. How do you get the waves like that...and do they stay? Love it! We go through meal ruts too. I always think Amy has good recipe ideas. I just don't have all the right ingredients sometimes. It takes a lot of pre-planning, which I often am terrible at, haha.

    1. Thank you. I use a one and a quarter to one and a half inch barrel curling iron and a bit of hairspray. Not a ton and it loosens up over the day to the perfect curl. I am ok at pre-planning, but not at choosing variety.

  20. I can't remember the name of our diaper pail (I'd go look but the baby's napping), and if you change the bags frequently enough, it doesn't smell too bad. I tend to let it fill up before I change it so there is a smell, but I hold my breath while I quickly change it haha. It has a flap on top you drop the diapers in so it just takes a second and then it closes again. I just got back into c25k and went to day with the baby in the stroller and the dog. I don't suggest going with a dog and a baby. Love your hair!! I need something low maintenance and less frequent trips to the salon because $$$. Might have to show your pic to my stylist.

    1. I wouldn't want to run with my dog and twins, so much work!! I workout at the gym during lunch right now and then will transition to running outside when I get back into it more. You should show the picture to your hairstylist. And ask her for suggestions on something that will be lower maintenance but still in style with right now!
