A Long Weekend

Another weekend in the books. And it was a good one. It wasn't long enough, but they never are.

Friday after work we got the girls passports taken care of. Finally. And without a hitch. This is a huge weight lifted from us as we were cutting it close per the in take person. We leave in less than 8 weeks and want to make sure we get them in time. Nothing like waiting until the last minute.

After the passports, we grabbed a quick bite to eat and headed home to feed the girls. Then I went and got my hair done and it was much needed. I needed the time to catch up with Kyra, the time to relax while my color set and the pampering that comes along with getting my hair done.

Then we headed out to our Valentine's date. We tried to go to a new restaurant (2 months old), but they were packed, so we headed to Centro. This is an Italian tapas restaurant with seasonally changing menus. It is one of our favorites. We started off with the Fall Salad (no picture) which had butternut squash, kale, pickled apple, shaved shallot, goat cheese and a toasted pecan vinaigrette. Then we had their daily tacos which had pork, a slaw and a delicious sauce on it. Next up was the filthy fries which had beer cheese, cotija cheese, braised short ribs, crispy bacon, sweet cherry peppers, drop peppers and balsamic glaze. Then we had the Southern quail which was a beer battered quail, fried pickles, fried quail egg, shiracha aoli and a smoked tomato chip. Next was the short rib stroganoff which had orzo pasta, mushroom duxell, cranberry demi, goat cheese, confit veggies and a micro green salad. We finished everything off (after a good 30 minutes in between) with the pumpkin creme brulee. It seems like a lot, but it is all small plates shared between two. It was the perfect amount of food. So good.

After dinner, we walked to a bar to have a night cap and enjoy our evening out just a little longer.

It was the perfect evening out.

Saturday morning we headed to breakfast and we headed to Target to grab a few things we needed. We were able to try out the girls new stroller (from Christmas) and it was a huge hit. As you can tell from the picture below.

That afternoon we took Walter and the girls on a long walk. I was able to use my new Garmin to track our distance, steps and course. Loving my new Vivoactive. The girls were pretty tired after the walk and Avery ended up napping on me. I cherish these moments so much because they won't want to do this for much longer.

Rory headed to a basketball game and we worked on our standing skills.

We also have been trying new foods and loving to use our hands to eat everything. Waffles were a huge this weekend.

Rory brought home dinner for us that evening and we caught up on some tv shows and went to bed early.

Sunday morning (Valentine's Day) we went to breakfast (again), ran more errands and took another walk. This time we walked to the coffee shop and frozen yogurt shop. We walked over three miles round trip and it was awesome. The weather was perfect all weekend. I went grocery shopping and that evening we stayed in. We gave the girls cards, some clothes and things for Mexico as their Valentine's gifts. I made dinner that night while Rory built a fire. We put the girls to bed after their dinner and enjoyed a quiet dinner with wine and the movie Burnt to top it off. It was the best Valentine's Day I could have asked for.

Monday was President's Day and we had it off, so we went to breakfast again, ran a few more errands and relaxed. We took another long walk and capped the evening off with Better Call Saul and The Bachelor.

How was your weekend?

  1. Your date night meal sounded amazing!! That shot of you and Avery is so sweet. I used to get so frustrated when Mila would nap on me and I couldn't do anything during her nap time, and I so regret that frustration now. I miss her napping on me! Sounds like you guys had a wonderful weekend! Enjoy your week!

    1. Awe thank you. I cherish those daytime cuddles. It is so hard to get them to cuddle now, but if they are tired and won't nap in their cribs (doesn't happen often) we get to snuggle on a chair or the couch. I got a bit frustrated when her sister woke up and I couldn't move to go get her. I had to text my husband who was outside working to get Sutton. It all worked out. It was a good weekend.

    1. It was pretty perfect and I wouldn't change a thing. Ok maybe the molars coming in on both of my girls. They make them a bit cranky and not wanting to sleep at night.

    1. They are pretty cool. They can get expensive, but you get to try so many different things that it is a lot of fun.

  7. That dinner looks delicious! Getting passports is the worst- you never know when and if there will be a problem! My kiddo has both Canadian and US so we got to go through that fun process two times. I need to make him waffles too! He would be obsessed!

    1. Going through the process twice is rough. I don't envy that. It was hard enough going through it once. Waffles are a total hit at our house. I just put some butter on it and call it good. I haven't given them syrup yet.
